August 2016 News sunsets, gardens and Asian Cuisine

We have had amazing winter weather this July with some record breaking temperatures. One day reach 31 degrees Celsius!

Some evenings the sunsets have been absolutely stunning, ranging from subtle pastels through to blazing oranges.

There is a new lookout on the northern end of the Alex Headland Park. It has a magnificent set of stairs leading down to the beach below. From the lookout you get expansive views to Mudgimba, Mt Coolum and Noosa Heads.

We managed to get a few hours at the Queensland Garden Expo at the Nambour Showgrounds after hearing so many wonderful reports from several of our guests. We managed to avoid being filmed for the Garden Show with Costa and the team and saw some innovative and inspiring ideas for gardens. From ideas to encourage children to get into gardening through to design features and technological advances there was something for all ages. Next year’s promises to be bigger and better. It will be held on 7th, 8th, 9th July, 2017

While we’re on the subject of gardens the Buderim Garden Festival is on the 15th and 16th October, from 9.00am until 4.00pm daily. There will be 6 open gardens, the Spring Flower Show in the Buderim War Memorial Hall, a plant market outside the hall and a garden sculpture exhibition in the Buderim Craft Cottage next door to the hall. There will be lots of ideas and stuff to ooh and aah over as the club celebrates its 70th Anniversary.

We have new gym equipment. Guests are giving us good feedback about the cross trainer and stationary cycle as they are powered up by the user not with mains power. The new treadmill looks a mighty beast, too.

There are two cruise boats due in to Mooloolaba in August: the Pacific pearl on August 10 and Carnival Spirit on August 18. As they usually moor just in front of Northwind our guests get a really good view of the comings and goings of the tenders and the pleasure craft which go out to get a close up look at the liners throughout the day.

Dining out in Mooloolaba

Ton Khao Bistro is at the intersection of The Esplanade and Burnett Street. It has Thai and Asian Inspired cuisine. They have a lovely décor and you have the option of dining indoors or outdoors. They have dine in and take away menus, are licensed and will cater for functions. They are open every day from 5.00pm.
