Giant Grouper at Sea Life Mooloolaba

The Giant Grouper, also known as the Queensland grouper is the largest bony fish found in coral reefs, and is the aquatic emblem of Queensland.

It is found throughout the Indo-Pacidic region, with the exception of the Persian Gulf.

The species can grow up to 2.7 metres long (9 feet) and weigh up to 600kg (1320lbs). There are unconfirmed reports of larger specimens.

They are fairly common in shallow waters and feed on a variety of marine life including small sharks and juvenile sea turtles.

Sea Life here in Mooloolaba has a magnificent Giant Grouper specimen which measures 1.8metres in length.
